(By the way: I have no idea why the video quality here is so bad. It looks normal until I upload it to youtube. I’ll investigate further–once I’m moved.)
Resident Mathematician Daniel Biss’s campaign has a web site made of awesome!
Secret Brother Tom’s new video is out!

I will miss New York as well!!!! Especially your writing-circle.
Btw: is it just me or was the video-quality of this video pretty darn bad? I loved the video, but the big blocks kinda annoyed me (yes I’m an antfucker)
The video quality is awful, and I don’t know why. I condensed it the same way I always do; maybe youtube changed. I’m trying something else now.
first?
aww…
I’m sorry……I had watched the video before it was on the BH2 site (long live my youtube supscriptions)
Hey John, what song was that?
It’s by the Mountain Goats, and it’s called “Love Love Love.” Great song.
Thanks!
No problem! Everyone should share in the Mountain Goats love love love.
Thanks, Jessie — I was going to ask as well — loved the song. And the bittersweet video.
suggestion to the admins- maybe you should imbed a “buy this song on itunes” button in this entry? I know I want to buy it (maybe the whole album, actually), and if you have a button 5% of all proceeds go to you- or, in this case, to decreasing worldsuck!
Just an idea. Great video John- and nice t-shirt! It’s lucky I didn’t see this two weeks ago, it would have made me weep. Today, just wistful, no tears. I hope Indianapolis treats you and the Yeti right!
This was incredibly sad-making.
:(
Change is good but I am not looking to moving either.
CHEER UP JOHN!
One of my absolute favorites, John. Here’s to love and finding your Indy walk!
What a beautiful, beautiful song, this video made me cry. It’s always so hard to leave a place you love…but you’ll be able to visit since you can work anywhere. I hope Judy will be a nice distraction.
I am leaving Boston, where I have lived for nine years, this fall — your video gave me a serious case of premature nostalgia. And made me want to list all the walks I will miss. There will be many.
Good luck with the move, you two.
the song, and the walk and the subtle shaky camera are very soothing, it makes you feel sad and happy all at once. you need to write a book about new york…or i guess someone living in new york. aaaaaah, you made my day
I don’t think you could have picked a better song for this.
An artistic post? I appreciate it.
I must say, that was a very bittersweet ending to the New York chapter in B2.0. New York will have a precious place in Nerdfighter hearts.
John, im not even going to pretend like i know what your going through, i was really young when i moved, but his post really had alot of feeling and it was trully beautiful, just know that there will be new places to walk and explore where you are going and that it will be fine. ^.^
awww….
boo.
that made me sad.
excellent, excellent song.
um..did anyone* see the video that I made with Computer NerdFighter Hannah of a lot of NerdFighters saying hi to John? it also has a miniature llama in it.
*by anyone, I mean John. Because he’s the only one we sent it to. I’m asking because it might have screwed up and not gotten sent, or the video might have spontaneously combusted (or whatever videos do when they don’t work).
Megan, Hank and I watched it together actually but haven’t had time to respond b/c the few days since we’ve come back from the DR have (obviously) been crazy.
But anyway, it was definitely made of awesome. you should post it on youtube so we can link to it!
John
Thanks! that’s awesome!
um..I’ll have to ask Hannah about the youtube thing because she is the Computer NerdFighter, after all.
Hey, dont i know you from somewhere?
& hurry it up, damn hippy, i still havent seen it yet
P.S. I was zee hot pink nerdy fighter
P.P.S Is it hippy or hippie?
oh yeah, russell is the one who has a ginormous crush on john.
hey it’s megan!! hi megan!!
that is so cool!!! JOHN GREEN replied YOUR post!!!! It’s almost like you had and actual CONVERSATION with a famous guy.
I know!!! yay!!
Is that a a Kenyon cornstalk t-shirt you’re wearing?
It is.
I thought as much too.
Beautiful post today, John. Made me nostalgic for a place I’ve never even lived.
yay kenyon cornstalk t-shirts for bringing out lurkers!
I was wearing mine today too!
Another comment lurker forced into the open by the power of the cornstalk.
We are like Kokosing!
damn it kathryn. you can’t just reference kokosing farewell all willy nilly. you’re making me cry.
well, you and sleep deprivation.
Not to mention the fact that the Kokosing song is a total earworm. I’ve been humming it every since reading your comment, Kathryn.
john, you made me cry.
it is so hard to leave places we love. and when we go back, they’re never the same. but it’s beautiful to have places to love, and carry them in your heart.
and that song was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John, your video made me glad that I’m going to be in NYC for a bit longer. But I was very unhappy that you said you were only going to miss your friends…what about your family living in New York? Your not going to miss us? Hi everyone…I’m John’s forgotten cousin.
Moving’s tough. There’s something about it that’s really emotional, even if you’re looking forward to the next chapter in life.
John, that was like a Blair With Project of sadness. And I dont know if there have been previous uses of Mountain Goats songs on B2.0, but if not, I knew it was just a matter of time. You and Hank WREAK (sp?) of Mountain Goats love.
I am leaving Germany in 38 days. I know I haven’t lived here forever, but it’s similarly weird. Change in general harbors a kind of undeniable weirdness that is both depressing and exciting at once.
Travel safe, and may you and the Yeti have many lovely memories (and new exciting walks) in Indianapolis…and maybe part 1 of the Green Family luge team.
It’s reek.
But gold star for you (and anyone) who listens to the Mountain Goats!!
That video was awesome. It’s sad that we’ll no longer see bits of NYC (like in the hilarious tooth-brushing video).
Hope all the moving stuff doesn’t give you any trouble!
We’ve never commented before but we had to agree with Sanders, the forgotten cousin. What about family-in-law? and Marjorie, your first niece? She was pretty miffed as to why her Aunt Yeti and Uncle John won’t miss her.
You all count as friends! Including Marjorie!
Thanks to you (and Marj!) for visiting with us. We’ll miss you in Indy.
John
I wish that I could take that walk with you…
I want to live in New York so bad!
This video was made of emotion and awesome!
why does it say “you can skip to the end and leave a response. pinging is currently not allowed” by the date? and whats pinging?
anyway this was an awesome video. i want to live in New York someday…its hard to get out of NM though.
kasia,
“Pinging” (a.k.a pingback) is a way for one blog to let another blog — and this is a blog system underneath the covers — know that a related post was written. So rather than posting a comment, somebody could write a blog post and then their system might ping the article it was talking about and the blog post would show up in the comments (as an extract) of the first article.
However, since it’s not enabled here, it’s a bit more of a confusing factor than useful (since ping-enabled systems have to handle failure in any case).
lol thanks…i was totally lost after “pinging is a way for one blog to let another blog…..” then i kinda trailed off. but thanks for trying to explain it to me. :]
Sorry.. my explanation wasn’t the greatest. I need a whiteboard or sock puppets or something. Then it would be clear, I’m sure.
Mmm… sock puppet technology videos… an untapped market…
Very moving (not in a “furniture” way, either). Appropriate choice of music, too.
I can’t believe you made me cry…on a Monday. I am going to go have to explain to my family why I am crying now, which is bad because they already think I’m a total sap.
Sometimes, Mr. John Green, you are just a little too brilliant.
Good, good luck with your move.
You made my Monday even more sad
Great video though, loved the song.
I left New York five years ago. This video brought me back. Thanks for the wonderful walk.
Oh, so bittersweet…but a big huzzah for the Mountain Goats song.
But Indiana’s not THAT bad, I promise - I’ve lived here my whole life and have survived thus far. Though I don’t know how Indy stacks up against NYC.

xo
BTW, the link is the You Tube video of Mountain Goat’s live Love Love Love to wish John and the Yeti bon voyage and safe travels.
I left Los Angeles where I lived my whole life and moved to Tampa with my wife, bought our first house and became a writer for real. That was four years ago and I am happy we did it. While I miss the big city, we would have never been able to afford this fantastic house, have a child who goes to school in the country, been able to afford giving up a high paying job to write fulltime and start my wife’s new career as a professor of sociology. There is much you’ll miss, but much, much more you will discover. You will remember what it is like to be a real person, not a creative in a town where you can throw a rock in any direction and hit another writer, actor, director, designer. You will be unique. You will have a life. You will have a house to call your own. And maybe start a family.
And you will be happier for it.
I’m so sad! What will your writing circle become? Who will Maureen write her crazy blog posts about?
The world as we know it is about to collapse.
Beautiful tribute to a beautiful city.
Thanks for sharing, John
The Mountain Goats are the cat’s pajamas!
That made my day!
And reminded me that I haven’t listened to the Mountain Goats in two weeks.
Which is far longer than is healthy to go without listening to them.
Lovely video John, I think this one just took the prize for my very favorite–even though it made me feel something like homesick.
On a lighter note: did you get any passersby commenting about your woman following six paces behind you?
Ah hah!
I think it would have been a funny sight.
Very nicely done.
What a wonderfully wistful piece, John! I felt the same way when we moved out of Chicago, even though we’re only 2 counties, 50 miles, and/or an hour and a half away…
Your video kinda wanted to make me cry. I hope you like Indianapolis as much as New York.
indeed.. that video was a bit bitter sweet and sad happy thing. i’m sure you’ll have a new kind of walk in indianapolis, albeit it will most definitely be different. but still you know.
yay! for moving?
Damn. Seriously dude. Damn.
i like the leg-kick the best.
Shoot, I’m just barely outside of the district to vote for Daniel. And I would have gladly given my first vote to him.
I like the leg-kick best too
This was a fantastic video — even though it made me really sad. You make me miss NYC, too!
This is completely random and off-topic, but I thought you would find this funny:

What a beautiful, awesome video. Thank you, John.
Definitely one of my favorite Brotherhood 2.0 videos. Thanks for sharing, John, and best of luck to you and the Yeti during your move.
Really one of the best B2.0 vids ever. You should think about directing Alaska yourself! Great song, great walk, great, great, great. Is that the song you usually hear in your head when you walk or just on your last walk?
I wish I could go on a walk like that in Montgomery. But I can’t. We don’t really have any parks.
This might be my favorite Brotherhood video ever, graininess and all. It made me miss New York all over again.
Here’s to your move, and to finding new places to love.
I haven’t read any comments yet, so forgive me if this is redundant.
What a perfect use of that Mountain Goats song. Thank you. It was lovely.
Safe driving.
Good luck with the move.
Great video, John. Good luck on your move. I hope you find your favorite walk in Indy!
Hank and John
are you amazed at the 41 page thread that the nerdfighters have created?
check it out some time
Im leaving Slovakia today too! To go back to Canada. I can totally relate. Only there is no way you are as depressed as me.
John,
You will be able to drive your car and then take wonderful walks down the Monon Trail, through Butler University or downtown along the canal. Or you might take up bike riding to get to your walks.
Beautiful vid, John. The music was absolutely perfect as was the professional cinematography.
My favorite video.
Lovely video.
Just the right amount of sweet and sentimental.
New York is just the best.
That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. Was that a little tear-wiping you did on that walk? Or was I just projecting?
:O :O
Hank is late! It is now 00:06 eastern time! That means we’re gonna get a punishment. Yay! Mwahaha.
lovely video.
Nice work, kids. NYC misses you tons.
Hey where that nerd fighter thing?
this video is really freaky because i know every place that you’ve walked through.
i have to run the res for gym sometimes. it’s gorgeous, but the running sucks.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
It’s rather fitting that you picked a Mountain Goats song with a literary reference. Almost more fitting that it was a video about leaving NYC and the literary reference is to Crime and Punishment.
Really though, beautiful.

FUNNY DOG!!!!!
I am working my way through the videos (backwards, for some reason) and wanted to comment on this one in particular. The song… love it! Can’t wait to put it on my iPod so I can play it as I make some of my favorite walks. Also, the walk itself… priceless! Even though you’ve been in Indiana for like a month and a half now, John, your videos of New York make me actually want to visit there… and that’s saying something! I’ve never wanted to visit NY before. Not even the parts of the state that are full of people. But I’d like to take that same walk. It was beautiful.
It was then that she decided to spend many of her coming days in New York City….
Sometimes I narrate my life. Have you ever done that? No? Oh well.
I’ve been to NYC 4 times? 5 times? 6 times? Obviously I’ve lost count. My first foray into NYC’s summer was about a month after you posted this, and the city in July was beautiful. This vlog made me think a lot about my days there: the people I met and everything I did and saw. I liked it a lot in the winter, too. Cold is my element. It seems like a great place to live; maybe in a couple years I’ll join the club.
Initial reaction:
THE MOUNTAIN GOATS?!? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE QUITE POSSIBLY MY FAVORITE MOUNTAIN GOATS SONG?!? WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME?!?
Post-viewing reaction:
Is it possible to feel loneliness, looking at a city I’ve never visited, to be missed by a man I’ve never met? I guess so. That’s a strange feeling to have. Hope everything is well.
wow this video was so touching, I just left for college a week ago and this is pretty much how i felt.
This actually made me cry, I think it’s the mountain goats song!
i dunno why… but it somehow makes me feel happy that John was taking a last walk (of sorts) around new york the same time i was…
man i miss new york…
