Dec. 26th: Christmas, Manga, and Goats

REMINDER: If you live in Missoula and are over 18, go see Hank play TONIGHT at 6:30 at the Badlander Bar (208 Ryman).

In which John talks about the aforementioned topics and mangles a T. S. Eliot quote. (Really: “Light / The visible reminder of invisible Light.”)

Wynflete’s amazing book

And thanks again to everyone who participated in the Happy Dance Project, whether by dancing or discussing!

You know it’s funny cause I was actually thinking about what it would be like to comment first when I went there and it was all “No Comments” and I nearly had a heart attack of happy.

It’s amazing the joy you get from being the first to comment o.o

I wish I had Goats…Not really, I actually wish I had sheep.

Merry Christmas!

goats are smart and sweet, sheep are dumb and astoundingly afraid.

we actually have only one of the four goats in the herd… however they may all be ‘with kid’ and they usually have twins. talk about a population explosion!

Hey John, YouTube was being weird and I’m not sure if my comment over there got posted. In response to Hank using a video feed for the concert, on Friday he was trying out http://www.stickam.com/profile/hankgreen this site to try and set it up. Several of us who happened to be on ended up chatting with him for a while, so it was pretty cool. But that was the last I heard about it, so I thought you might know something I didn’t.

oh and john, next time you are at your parents house and are playing with the goats…try this.
1. find a poop free area by the goats.
2. get on your knees. (actually its more like shins)
3. put your head by your knees.
4.prepare to be climbed by several goats who will most likely fight over standing on your back.

1. The Green parents are awesome. (Did we even need more proof?)
2. I really like the idea of a used book/charity donation Christmas.
3. How fun are pictures of young John or Hank? Too fun.

Also, this afternoon I was listening to a Death Cab for Cutie cd and reading Looking for Alaska (both Christmas presents) when ‘Brothers on a Hotel Bed’ came on. I stopped–I knew that song! But from where? Then it hit me–it was the B2.0 theme. My life is 79.8% Green.

Dude sweet! I totally got a pair of argyle socks too! I actually buy those regularly because I think they look awesome.
I remember my uncle used to have a goat. I was supposed to be as skinny as your parents’ goats. It was about five times fatter and then it died because it was too fat. I totally agree with the nonstop pooping thing. I couldn’t walk a foot without there being goat poop in my way. It also used to stand on the backs of cows and my Grandpa’s back.

Jon,

Not sure if you’ll see this but I just wanted to let you know author David LaRochelle pimped “Katherines” on Minnesota Public Radio today. David is the author of the gay young adult novel “Absolutely, Positively, Not.” *note: when I say gay I of course mean it’s a book about a gay character, not a pejorative adjective.*

I love goats - my mom had two for a while - to keep down brush.

I want fainting goats - I really think my dog would love some goats - she likes to herd things, and goats would be great for her to herd.

And if that doesn’t count as weird Magna, I don’t know what does - although from my experience with my teen daughters, most Manga is weird stuff - lots of gender identity issues, lots of ’school girl’ antics… but maybe that is just the stuff they like!

I am glad you had a happy christmas - and that your parents are nerdfighters - nerdfighters make the best parents!

I’m the proud owner of several pairs of argyle socks, and I didn’t even realize they enhanced my nerdfighter cred. But I think nerdfighters are even more nerdfighterly when they do things because they like them, and not because they know they fit the nerdfighter image.

I’m so sorry we only have one John video left! Is it ridiculous of me to think that it’s unfair that, due to the odd number of non-weekend, non-holiday days in the year, Hank has one more day on the vlog than John? I think both brothers should have to submit a video on December 31, to say a proper goodbye to the Nerdfiighters.

Enjoyed the T.S. Eliot quote! My favorite is “in a minute there is time for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.”

Also, I gave my sister (and fellow nerdfighter) “Looking for Alaska” for Christmas, and I can’t wait until she reads it. Brotherhood 2.0 has brought us closer together!

Merry Christmas, John.

I had plastered my favorite T. S. Elliot all over the Project for Awesome vids on YouTube - but just in case you missed it:

Moment, the moment in and out of time,
The distraction fit, lost in a shaft of sunlight,
The wild thyme unseen, or the winter lightning
Or the waterfall, or music heard so deeply
That it is not heard at all, but you are the music
While the music lasts.

I realized on and around August fourth I was in exactly the same spot, doing exactly the same thing, as I did a year ago.

(for the record, this included: FEELING MASSIVELY ISOLATED. LISTENING TO KILL HANNAH AND THE SMITHS. MISSING THE GAY PRIDE PARADE. WATCHING THE FINALE OF THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS. DID I MENTION FEELING MASSIVELY ISOLATED?)

Also, I think I was wearing the same shirt.

Throws your life into perspective, that does. A whole year of events, and I still end up in the same place doing the same things and feeling the same emotions.

Was that T.S. Eliot quote in “Looking for Alaska”? Because it sounded strangely familiar, and, until recently, I have never been a big one for books, at least not novels and things of that sort. But that does sound familiar and the only book I have been reading recently was Alaska, so yeah.
By the way that reminds me, thank you Green brothers for increasing my interest in wanting to read more. You’ve thrown out in your videos, so I might start with those, and then discover anything else I would like to read, but thanks though. DFTBA.

I also suggested charitable giving with my siblings and parents (exchange charities and donate for one another), and got horrible responses! One brother - knowing I’m animal-friendly - responded with a caustic email, including “It ain’t dinner till something dies”, and a sister told me I had taken all the FUN out of HER Christmas. It was awful. So my brother sent me a knife (?) and no one answered my phone calls or replied to me when I called them on the 25th. It was so odd.

Maybe I was switched at birth and I was supposed to be your sister! No worries. Note to Sheryl - thanks for being there and supporting me!
