Secret Project Commenting Guide!
That's right, I'm not even using CSS...because this isn't about pretty, it's about awesome.

You are here because you want to pariticipate in the Secret Project for Awesome. There are two sections to this guide:

EXPLANTION!
On December 17th...Nerds are going to Take Over YouTube. And you are going to help. Here's how it will work:

Over 4000 nerdfighters are going to join together and promote a bunch of videos that have the same thumbnail. These videos will be made my nerdfighters, and they will each promote the vloggers favorite charity. The Nerdfighters will promote these videos by rating them, favoriting them, and commenting on the...a LOT!

Each video needs over 1000 comments, and as there are only 4000 of us, and dozens of videos to promote, then we're going tohave to be dedicated. We're going to do it by commenting on the videos in a variety of ways.

THE INSTRUCTIONS!
Starting at Noon Eastern Time (9am pacific, 5pm UK, 4am AUS (sorry Australians)) videos with the NerdFighter thumb will start appearing. Throughout the day I will be sending out emails containing several links to videos that need to be promoted. We will start with the easiest videos...several people participating frequently get to the Most Discussed Page on their own...so we can push them fast.

Then we'll start moving to the harder-to-promote vids. WE WILL HAVE TO CONCENTRATE OUR EFFORTS! so I ask that you attempt to stick to the four or five videos that I have most recently asked you all to comment on. If we make it through four or five of those emails, we should, theoretically, have taken over the whole Most Discussed page. But that doesn't mean we'll stop there. We'll keep on commenting, rating and appreciating until every vid in the project has SWEET numbers.

Once you have rated the video (5 stars...for awesome...would be nice.) It will be time to begin commenting. Comments can take many different forms.

  1. DO: ask questions. If you've always wondered something about your fellow nerdfighters (favorite color, religious views, favorite cartoon from childhood, whether they prefer Clerks to Mallrats, PHP to Perl, Revver to YouTube, Britney to Christina, Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter.) ASK ASK ASK!
  2. DO: ANSWER QUESTIONS! Every thread for every video will be seeded with questions fairly quickly...so click on "reply" and let the world know how you feel about britney, LoTR, and God!
  3. DO: make friends. You can have conversations in a youtube comment thread, just like in a bulliten board, or instant message. Just chat!...make friends!
  4. DO: Mess around. Some of my favorite B20 comments are the long strings of "finish the story" played by Charlie and Alan. It resulted in some truly epic comment threads. You can see what I'm talking about here.
  5. DO: Be creative. Those four ideas are just ideas. There are certainly more ideas out there...you can play the change one letter game and see where it takes you. Or play 20 questions...or....or...RUN WITH IT!
  6. DO NOT: Just copy and paste the same word, or sentence, over and over and over again. That WOULD acheive our goal...but it would also be kinda lame.

THE FAQ

  1. Do I have to make a video to participate?
Heck No! In fact, we need more commenters than video makers, otherwise the project won't work!
  2. If I do want to make a video for the project, how do I do that.
See the Project for Awesome Video Making Guide
  3. How are you ordering video promotions?
I'm sorry to say, but pretty randomly. Once we're done with the high-profile folks, there are a few people that we've bumped up because they've been Secret Siblings for a long time, or because we really like what they're doing on YouTube. Also, if a video that I receive seems particularly awesome, I'll try to promote it early. But I make no guarantees.
  4. Is YouTube going to be angry with us?
Nope. We're not doing anything wrong...AND we're doing it for a good cause AND some of the most prominent youtubers are joining us, so we've got nothing to worry about.
  5. Why the 17th?
    Why not?
  6. I can't start until X:00 pm because I have work / school / a sick aunt / I live in Australia
No problem mon! Just pick up where we're at...at the most recent email...and dive in. YouTube counts comments for the Most Discussed Page for a full 48 hours...so even if you can't participate on Monday...you can still help if you're around on Tuesday!
  7. How did Nerdfighters get so awesome?
I don't know...it's one of the most profound and awe-inspiring mysteries I have ever encountered.

I think that just about covers everything. If you have any more questions, email me at hank@brotherhood2.com.
